“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass themall!”30Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.31 Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise. Proverbs 31: 29-31 NLT

The month of March is National Women’s Month. As I was meditating on the lead scripture I was taken back to Whitney Houston’s award winning song, I’m Every Woman.  The words to the course of the song say, I’m every woman, it’s all in me, anything you want done baby, I do it naturally! While there is a secular connotation to this song, I began to use my spiritual imagination and realized that this song has a message that can impact  the women of God.  If we look at Proverbs 31 it begins by sharing all that the virtuous woman does and it is evident that she wears many hats. The Proverbs 31 woman is every woman. She is a mother, she is a laborer, she is an encourager, a nurturer, and she is every woman.  The one attribute that I felt exudes from this passage of scripture is balance. The virtuous woman stands above all women because she carries out everything with balance. The term balance is defined as; “something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise” (Webster.com). The virtuous woman was balanced. She knew that she had many roles but she knew when to step in and step out of each one. She understood what it meant to balance life and did not allow life to balance her.

Proverbs 31 gives the key idea of what it means to be every woman. She not only has balance but she is a woman who balances her worth (value), she balances her wisdom (vision), and the Proverbs 31 woman balances all of this on the basis of her lifestyle of worship (virtue).  The Proverbs 31 woman knows her worth and understands that she is a made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26), she accepts that she is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that she knows she is from the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13) She understands that she is wise beyond her years.  She understands that to God belongs wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are His (Job 12:13).  She accepts the mandate that was given in Proverbs 4:7 which states; the beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost you all you have; get understanding. Although a woman’s worth and wisdom help her maintain balance and allow her the ability to carry out the roles of being every woman, it is her worship that predicates all of these things. In Romans 12:1 the word of God states; I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.  Above everything, if you want to be every woman, you must prefect your lifestyle of worship. God tells you that you must worship Him and serve Him only (Matthew 4:10).   You must worship God with all that you are and all that you have.

The next time you think of the phrase or that song, “I’m Every Woman”, ask yourself are you the Proverbs 31 definition of every woman? Think about the following as you answer that question and please share with us here at Pursuing Victory.

1-       What does your worship look like?

2-       How do you define your worth, by the World’s standards or by the
          Kingdom's standards?

3-       Do you seek knowledge or wisdom? Why?

4-       Is life balancing you or are you balancing life?
